INTRO TO GUATEMALAN CRAFTS WITH STELA 9
This day is set aside for arrivals and getting settled in Antigua. You will be greeted at CASA DE STELA by your host and guide, Jess Bercovici with a custom welcome basket. In the evening we'll have a family style dinner with group introductions in the candlelit courtyard under the stars.
Intro to the back-strap loom
Learn the ancient craft of back-strap weaving from highly skilled indigenous Mayan weavers. We work with weavers from several different villages to show you the different patterns and iconography introduced to the textiles from each region. This course is run by Olga Reiche. Olga has worked with artisan groups throughout Guatemala for over 30 years.

Visit Olga's studio and learn the history behind the "King of Dyes" aka Indigo. Here you will receive a handwoven shawl that you can dye with various techniques.

CHICHICASTENANGO MARKET & CAOBA FARM
Save your energy for this incredible day! We'll start by grabbing a big breakfast in picturesque Tecpan on the way to the largest artisan market in Central America! Mayan textile expert, Jess will lead the tour and show you all of her favorite spots and assist you with making sure you're paying a fair price for your purchases. We'll end the night at Caoba Farms for dinner. This organic farm to table restaurant is only open for dinner on Thursday nights and is a must on our list of things to do!

Family Dinner at the house - friends of Stela 9 will join us and we can hear about their experiences living and working in Antigua, Guatemala.
Breakfast will be included for those who leave after 8am. All transport arrangements to the airport or elsewhere (if you extend your trip) will be arranged beforehand
